20-26 November:

Desdiv 19 steamed with Desron 3 from Kure to Samah (Hainan).

4-22 December:

Escorted troop convoys out of Samah and Camranh Bay in Malaya invasion operations.

19 December:

Sank Dutch submarine O-20 (previously damaged by AYANAMI and YUGIRI) and rescued 32 survivors.

January-February:

Escorted KUMANO, SUZUYA, MOGAMI and MIKUMA in support of Malaya, Anambas Islands and Bangka-Palembang invasion forces.

27 February:

With Western Java invasion force.

12 March:

With Northern Sumatra invasion force.

23 March:

With Andaman Islands invasion force; then patrol/escort duties out of Port Blair during Japanese raids into Indian Ocean.

Desdiv 19 escorted Admiral Yamamoto's Main Body.

during return from Midway, in collision with ISONAMI: best speed 24 knots.

Docked at Kure for repairs.

14-23 July:

Escorted armed merchant cruiser KIYOZUMI MARU from Kure via Formosa to Singapore.

28-31 July:

Steamed from Singapore to Mergui (Burma) for Indian Ocean raiding operations, aborted due to Guadalcanal.

8-21 August:

Escorted tankers NIPPON MARU and KYOKUTO MARU from Mergui via Makassar and Tarakan to join fleet north of the Solomons.

24 August: Battle of Eastern Solomons:

Escorted fleet supply group; then to Rabaul on 29 August.

30 August-1 September:

Escorted SENDAI from Rabaul to Shortlands.

1 September:

Troop transport run to Guadalcanal.

4 September:

Led troop transport run to Guadalcanal: With SHIKINAMI and ARIAKE (and a second section of YUDACHI, HATSUYUKI and MURAKUMO) landed about 1,000 soldiers of Ichiki and Aoba Detachments at Taivu.

Led attack mission to Guadalcanal: With SHIKINAMI, YUDACHI and ARIAKE, sent to attack enemy convoy off Guadalcanal; unable to locate, shelled airfield instead.

12-15 November: Naval Battles for Guadalcanal:

Initially escorted Admiral Kurita's Support Force, then joined Admiral Kondo's Emergency Bombardment Force. Operated with AYANAMI in assault on U.S. destroyers. Assisted disabled AYANAMI, removed survivors, then scuttled with torpedoes.

18 November:
Arrived Truk, then patrol/escort duties out of that base.

14-20 January 1943:
With MURASAME, escorted CHUYO from Truk via Saipan to Yokosuka, then docked for repairs.

22 January-6 February:
At Uraga Dockyard, twin 13mm (later replaced by 25mm) machine guns added on bandstand forward of bridge.

7-12 February:
With MURASAME, escorted CHUYO from Yokosuka to Truk.

13-17 February:
Escorted convoy from Truk to Rabaul.

21-24 February:

Led troop transport run from Rabaul to Madang and back.

25 February:

Desdiv 19 reassigned to 1st Surface Escort Division, Southwest Area Fleet.

1-4 March: Battle of the Bismarck Sea:
Escorted troop convoy from Rabaul towards Lae. On 3 March weathered air attacks without damage, then assisted in rescuing survivors of sunken ships, then carried them to Rabaul.

7-10 March:

Troop transport run from Rabaul via Shortlands to Kolombangara and back.

11-19 March:

Steamed from Rabaul via Palau and Balikpapan to Surabaya.

22-30 March:

Escorted convoy from Surabaya to Sorong.

2 April:
Heavy damage:
struck reef near Makassar.

15 April:

Desdiv 19 reassigned directly to Southwest Area Fleet.

26 April-13 August:

Docked for repairs at Surabaya.

15 May:

Out of Singapore to assist KINU towing KITAKAMI.

12-25 February:

Docked at Singapore for maintenance.

27 February-25 March:

Escorted AOBA, TONE and CHIKUMA from Singapore into Indian Ocean for raiding operation; awaited their return at Bangka 6-14 March; then escorted them from Batavia back to Singapore.

2-8 April:

Escorted KINU from Singapore via Balikpapan to Davao.

13-26 April:

Escorted troop convoy from Davao to Saipan, then back to Palau.

15 April:
Lieutenant Commander Tanaka (to C.O. MICHISHIO) relieved by Lieutenant Commander Sako Masuhide [61] (prev. C.O. SHIOKAZE).

26 April-1 May:

Accompanied KINU on troop transport run from Palau to Tokobe Island, then via Davao to Tarakan.

5-29 May:

Escorted tanker convoys from Tarakan via Balikpapan and Tawitawi to Palau.

31 May-1 June:

Steamed from Palau to Davao to take part in Biak troop transport operations.

2 June:

Troop transport run to Biak, aborted due to early enemy detection; then to Sorong on 4 June.

8 June:

Troop transport run to Biak, aborted due to enemy interception. Engaged Allied cruiser-destroyer group; then via Sorong to Batjan on 11 June.

14 June-2 July:

Escorted AOBA and KINU from Batjan via Bangka Roads and Makassar to Singapore.

2 July-4 August:

Docked at Singapore for maintenance. “X” turret removed/replaced by two triple 25mm mounts; additional 25mm added along length of ship (details unknown).

7-11 August:

Accompanied KINU on transport run from Singapore via Brunei to Manila.

15-16 August:

Transport run from Manila to Cebu.

19-21 August:

Out of Cebu to assist torpedoed NATORI but unable to locate.

24-27 August:

Steamed from Cebu to Singapore, then patrol/escort duties out of that base.

6-19 September:

While at Singapore, Type 22 radar installed on foremast and Type 13 radar on mainmast.

11-15 October:
While at Singapore, further maintenance included adjustments to Type 22 radar installation.

21-23 October:
Escorted AOBA and KINU from Lingga to Manila.

24 October:
Minor damage:
due to near-misses and strafing in U.S. air raid on Manila: best speed 28 knots, four dead and nine wounded.

24-26 October:

Accompanied KINU on troop transport run from Manila via Mindanao to Ormoc. Sunk: by aircraft of U.S. Task Force 77.4.2, 70 miles north-northeast of Iloilo, Panay (11-50 N, 123 E). Hit by two bombs and several rockets; 94 survivors, 103 killed, including Lieutenant Commander Sako. KINU (also sunk) and URANAMI survivors rescued by naval transports T.6, T.9 and T.10.

10 December 1944:

Removed from Navy List.
