7 December:
Escorted Admiral Nagumo's carrier striking force for the attack on Pearl Harbor.

21-23 December:
Escorted HIRYU and SORYU in air strikes on Wake Island; then arrived in Kure 29 December.

8-14 January 1942:
Escorted carrier force from Japan to Truk.

20 January:

23 January:

Steamed from Kure via Saipan to Truk.

16-18 August:
Troop transport run from Truk to Guadalcanal; then to Rabaul on 20 August.

25 August:
With Milne Bay invasion force.

Troop transport run to Kolombangara (cover). Contributed torpedoes to spread that sank USS HELENA (CL-50). Minor damage: hit by dud shell.

Steamed from Rabaul to Truk.

19-24 July:
Escorted JUNYO from Truk to Kure.

15 August-11 September:
Escorted JUNYO from Saeki to Singapore (28 August-4 September) and back to Kure.

19-24 September:
Escorted JUNYO on troop transport mission from Iwakuni to Truk.

26-28 September:
Accompanied KISO and TAMA on troop transport run from Truk to Ponape and back.

17-26 October:
Escorted fleet from Truk to Eniwetok in anticipation of U.S. carrier raids, then returned.

31 October-6 November:
Escorted JUNYO, UNYO, YAMASHIRO and ISE from Truk to Kure, then docked for repairs. ("X" turret probably removed/replaced by two triple 25mm mounts during this refit.)

8 November:
Commander Maeda relieved by Lieutenant Commander Ikeda Shunsaku (prev. C.O. USUGUMO).

26 November-17 December:
Escorted SHOKAKU from Yokosuka to Truk (1-12 December) and back.

20-25 December:
Escorted YAMATO from Yokosuka to Truk.

29 December 1943-1 January 1944:
Escorted KUMANO and SUZUYA on troop transport run from Truk to Kavieng (31 December) and back.

2-8 January:
Out of Truk to assist torpedoed transport KIYOZUMI MARU, then helped NAKA tow back to Truk.

10-27 January:
Escorted tanker convoys from Truk to Palau and back.

1-4 February:
Escorted fleet units from Truk to Palau; then returned to Truk on 8 February.

10-13 February:
Escorted fleet units from Truk to Palau.

16-21 February:
Escorted fleet units from Palau to Lingga.

11 March-1 April:
Escorted convoys from Lingga via Palau to Davao.

Escorted convoys from Davao via Tarakan and Balikpapan to Saipan.

Escorted convoys from Saipan via Balikpapan and Davao to Tawitawi.

9 June:
Sunk: torpedoed by USS HARDER (SS-257) in Sibutu Passage near Tawitawi, 90 miles southwest of Basilan (05-42 N, 120-41 E); 114 killed, 126 survivors, including Lieutenant Commander Ikeda (died of wounds 11 June), rescued by URAKAZE.

10 August 1944:
Removed from Navy List.
