16 May 1944:
Completed at Tokyo; assigned same date to Desron 11, Combined Fleet, for training. Ship's captain: Commander Miyazaki Isamu (prev. C.O. TACHIKAZE).

30 June:
Departed Yokosuka, then transport run to Chichi-jima.

5 August:
Assigned to Desron 2, Second Fleet.

7 August:
Departed Kure, escorting convoys via Manila to Lingga.

15 August:
Assigned to Desdiv 2, Desron 2, Second Fleet.

5 September:
Commander Miyazaki relieved by Lieutenant Commander Kajimoto Shizuka (prev. C.O. YAYOI).

18-20 October:
Escorted fleet from Lingga to Brunei.

23-25 October: Battle of Leyte Gulf
Escorted Admiral Kurita's 1st Diversion Attack Force. Medium damage: on 24 October during air attacks in Battle of Sibuyan Sea; one direct bomb hit and five near-misses; radio out, best speed 21 knots. Assisted sinking MUSASHI, helped HAMAKAZE rescue survivors, then to Manila.

27-29 October:
Departed Cavite Navy Yard, carrying emergency repair crews to Coron; then to Brunei.

1-3 November:
Carried Comdesron 2 (Rear Admiral Hayakawa Mikio) from Brunei to Manila; Admiral Hayakawa then transferred to SHIMAKAZE.

5-8 November:
Escorted OYODO from Manila via Miri (Borneo) to Brunei.

8-12 November:
Escorted TAKAO from Brunei to Singapore; then docked for repairs.

24-26 December:
With San Jose bombardment force. Sunk: was crippled by two direct bomb hits in attacks by U.S. Army bombers during approach to Mindoro, then was finished off by torpedo from U.S. PT-223, 145 miles south of Manila (12-20 N, 121 E); 82 killed, 74 injured. ASASHIMO rescued 169 survivors, including Comdesdiv 2 (Captain Shiraishi Nagayoshi) and Lieutenant Commander Kajimoto; U.S. PT-boats rescued five others.

10 February 1945:
Removed from Navy List.
