Escorted ZUIKAKU from Singapore to Kure (27 February-8 March) and back.

12-15 May:
Escorted fleet from Lingga to Tawitawi.

30 May-5 June:
Escorted FUSO from Tawitawi to support Biak troop transport operations (aborted), then to Davao.

7-8 June:
Departed Davao escorting MYOKO and HAGURO to support Biak troop transport operations. Sunk: torpedoed by USS HAKE (SS-256) at mouth of Davao Bay (06-03 N, 124-57 E). ASAGUMO rescued 133 survivors, including Commander Hashimoto (to C.O.HATSUZUKI), but Comdesdiv 10 (Captain Akazawa Shizuo) was killed in action.

10 July 1944:
Removed from Navy List.
