31 July 1943:
Completed at Maizuru; assigned same date to Desron 11, First Fleet, for training. Ship's captain: Commander Shimizu Itsurou (prev. C.O. UMIKAZE).

20 August:
Assigned to Desdiv 32, Desron 11, First Fleet.

30 September:
Desdiv 32 reassigned to Desron 2, Second Fleet.

15-20 October:
Escorted YAMASHIRO, ISE and TATSUTA on troop transport operation from Saeki to Truk.

22-24 October:
Accompanied TATSUTA on troop transport run from Truk to Ponape and back.

26-28 October:
Troop transport run from Truk to Ponape and back.

3-5 November:
Escorted Admiral Kurita's heavy cruiser group from Truk to Rabaul.

6 November:
Cape Torokina counter-landing: troop transport run to Bougainville (cover).

11-15 November:
Escorted MAYA and NOSHIRO from Rabaul to Truk; en route also assisted torpedoed AGANO.

24 November-5 December:
Escorted fleet in Marshalls-area in response to U.S. landings on Tarawa, then returned to Truk.

11-14 December:
Escorted convoy from Truk to Palau; then patrol/escort duty out of that base.

28 December:
Out of Palau to join escorts of Truk-Surabaya and Balikpapan-Truk tanker convoys. On 3 January 1944 assisted the torpedoed AKEBONO MARU and later escorted her into Palau.

8-17 January 1944:
With SHIMAKAZE, escorted tanker convoy from Balikpapan via Palau to Truk. En route lost two of three tankers (NIPPON MARU and KENYO MARU) to submarine attack.

18-20 January:
Departed Truk escorting ZUIHO and UNYO to Yokosuka, then escorted torpedoed UNYO to Saipan; later rejoined ZUIHO and escorted into Yokosuka on 23 January.

15-20 February:
Escorted TAKAO from Yokosuka to Palau.

1-7 March:
Escorted transport SAKITO MARU from Palau to Saipan.

10-25 March:
Escorted tanker KOKUYO MARU from Saipan via Palau and Tarakan to Balikpapan.

29 March-14 April:
Escorted tanker convoys from Balikpapan via Palau and Davao to Lingga.

12-15 May:
Escorted fleet from Lingga to Tawitawi.

7 June:
Sunk: torpedoed by USS HARDER (SS-257) near Tawitawi, 35 miles east of Borneo (04- 43 N, 120-03 E). Blew up and sank with 208 killed, including Comdesdiv 32 (Captain Orita Tsuneo) and Commander Shimizu; 45 survivors rescued by URAKAZE.

10 August 1944:
Removed from Navy List.
