Three years ago, on 1 Jun '15, I announced that I would be retiring as Co-Managing Editor and a Principal Contributor to Combinedfleet.com (CF). That “retirement” followed a fall in which I fractured a lumbar vertebrae. I was on pain and sleep meds and bed ridden for a couple of months. Later, after successful spinal surgery and physical therapy, I fully recovered and returned to CF, my principal avocation.

It has been fun, but now, as an octogenarian, after almost 18 years and well over a 1,000 new TROMs on IJN submarines, cruisers, battleships, smaller combatants, IJN auxiliaries and IJA auxiliaries (primarily transports), Special Features on IJN naval aviation, the IJN and China 1931-1941, captured and domestic oil facilities, 1942-1945 and many reviews of books pertaining to the IJN, I have decided to retire from regular postings. (Kevin Denlay - N.B. - I really mean it this time!)

I have enjoyed working with all the hard working volunteer members devoting hundreds, if not thousands of unpaid hours to CF, and with many of our readers, both living and deceased. I especially want to again thank Pete Chen, CF’s Technical Manager, for his patience in assisting me untangle numerous and weird problems with html in posting our TROMs. I also wish to thank Erich Muehlthaler of Germany, a premier researcher, for his generous assistance over the past years. I want to thank Allyn Nevitt for inspiring me and Tony Tully for inviting me to join CF back in year 2000 and CF's founder Jon Parshall for giving me virtual freedom to post on his site.

12 March 2016 Back in August 2013, the Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory's (HURL) deep-diving submersible Pisces V located the wreck of Japan’s super submarine I-400, SW of Oahu, Hawaii, then in October 2014, Pisces IV and V returned to the site and researcher Terry Kerby located the ship's bell in the debris field on the seabed. This week, HURL announced that Pisces IV and V again returned and recovered the bell.
