[1] The semi-circular bow hatch housed the Shinyo's 250-kg explosive charge.
[2] The IJA's EMBs known as "Maru-ni" or their cover name "Renraku-tei" (liaison boats), or "Q-boats"by the Allies, were of generally similar size and configuration. Maru-ni carried two 120-kilogram depth charges, one on each side of the cockpit.
