KYOKUSEI MARU was completed in 1929 by J. Coughlan & Sons Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., Canada
as a 5,493-ton cargo ship and named MARGARET COUGHLAN. In 1938 she was sold to Asahi Shoji, Tokyo
and renamed KYOKUSEI MARU. In Mar '43, KYOKUSEI MARU was sunk by American USAAF
B-17 "Flying Fortress" heavy bombers in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea.
