Yamabiko Maru Class Ships

(YAMABIKO MARU prewar)

This class consisted of YAMABIKO and YAMAURA MARUs. Completed in '37, as a passenger-cargo steamer, YAMABIKO MARU was converted to an IJN repair ship in '41. Her main operating base was Rabaul. YAMABIKO MARU was torpedoed and sunk off the Bonins in Jan '44. YAMAURA MARU was completed in '38 and converted to a troop transport in '41. She was sunk by USN aircraft at Guadalcanal in Nov '42.
