TOYOOKA MARU-Class IJA Transports

(LIMA MARU, prewar)

This class consists of TOYOOKA, LIMA, TOKIWA, TOYAMA TSURUGA and, TSUYAMA MARUs completed between 1915 and 1920 for Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Tokyo.

All ships in this class were converted to auxiliary transports. All were sunk by submarines during the Pacific War. TSURUGA MARU was sunk by a Dutch submarine in ’42 while LIMA, TOYOOKA, TOKIWA TOYAMA and TSUYAMA MARUs were all sunk by American submarines in ’44.
