Tenyo Maru Class Minelayer
(TENYO MARU in peacetime)

Completed in 1935, TENYO MARU was built as a 6,843-ton cargo ship. She was used on Mitsui’s New York route for five years. Just prior to Pearl Harbor, TENYO MARU was converted to a large minelayer. In March 1942, TENYO MARU was bombed by USN carrier aircraft and sank off Lae, New Guinea.
