Tenko Maru Class Transport

(Sister SURABAYA MARU)

This class consists if five ships: TENKO, HEINAN, HEIJIN (later HIBURI MARU), MEICHU and SURABAYA MARUs.
HIBURI and SURABAYA MARUs saw service in the Pacific War. Both were torpedoed and sunk by American submarines:
SURABAYA MARUin the Carolyn Islands in '43 and HIBURI MARU in the Kuriles in '44.
