TAIYO MARU-Class Auxiliary Transport

(USS CAP FINISTERRE, later TAIYO MARU, bringing home troops in 1919)


Completed in 1911 as passenger-cargo CAP FINISTERRE for the German Hamburg-Sudamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft. In 1920, she was ceded to Japan as a World War 1 reparation and renamed TAIYO MARU. During the Pacific War, she was allotted to the Imperial Army as a Rikugun Haitosen (A/C-APK). TAIYO MARU was sunk by an American submarine in May '42.
