In 1917, SOMEDONO MARU was completed as a passenger cargo ship for Tatsuuma Kisen, K.K. Her sisters were BENGAL, CALCUTTA, HIMALAYA, KAIAN (YONEYAMA), KONAN and MURORAN MARUs. All were sunk in the Pacfic War.
