21 September 1944:
At about 2200, in poor weather, LtCdr (later Captain) Melvin H. Dry’s (USNA ’34) USS SEA RAVEN (SS-196) torpedoes and sinks RIZAN MARU at 49-36N, 145-30E with the loss of 87 crewmen, 33 gunners and 172 troops and other passengers.

At 1709, A Russian merchant ship advises the convoy that a submarine lies ahead. The convoy changes course.

23 May 1945:
Arrives at Paramushiro.

26 May 1945:
At 2000, SHIRASAKI departs Paramushiro, Kuriles for Otaru, Hokkaido in the “Chi” convoy consisting of KURETAKE, TENRYO and KASUGASAN MARUs escorted by kaibokan SHIMUSHU, HACHIJO and CD-112.

29 May 1945:
At 1300, at N47.32-E143.31, CD-112 departs and starts searching for HACHIJO. At 2055, LtCdr Hugh H. Lewis' (USNR) USS STERLET (SS-392) torpedoes KURETAKE and TENRYO MARUs. KURETAKE MARU's crew struggles to control flooding, but TENRYO MARU sinks soon after being hit taking down 773 out of 947 men of the 23rd Air Defense Battalion, 26 gunners and 83 crewmen. Lewis attacks the escorts, but scores no hits with 11 torpedoes. SHIMUSHU carries out an anti submarine sweep and drops 17 depth charges and later the main guns fire 53 rounds and the machine guns fire 251 rounds.

30 May 1945:
At 0600, KURETAKE MARU sinks. 272 troops and six crewmen are KIA. SHIMUSHU rescues more than 400 survivors. At 0900, ceases the rescue of survivors. Heads towards Otaru towing two large Daihatsus . At 1200, both Daihatsus flood and sink.

31 May 1945:
Arrives at Otaru.

15 August 1945:
SHIRASAKI’s crew is notified of the termination of the war.

5 October 1945:
Removed from the Navy List.

8 October 1945:
Departs Ominato.

12 October 1945:
Arrives at Pusan and departs later that day.

13 October 1945:
Arrives at Hakata. Rapidly discharges and returns to Pusan. Departs again, all in a single day.
