SHINSHU MARU Class Auxiliary Oiler

(SHINSHU MARU, prewar)

Completed as a cargo ship in '34 for Tomoegumi Kisen K.K., SHINSHU MARU was requisitioned by the Imperial Army in '41 and participated in the Invasion of Java as a troop transport. In Jan ‘43, she was converted from a cargo-transport vessel to an emergency tanker and requisitioned by the Imperial Navy. In Oct ’44, she was sunk by an American submarine.

Sister ship KOZAN MARU was completed in '35 as a cargo ship for the Yamamoto Kisen K. K. Line of Osaka. She too was requisitioned by the Imperial Army in '41 and participated in the Invasion of Java as a troop transport. In Sep ’43, she was sunk by an American submarine.
