SHINKO MARU-Class Auxiliary Transport

(SHINKO MARU prewar)

This class consists of SHINKO, ZENYO, KEIYO, YAMAZUKI, KAMOGAWA, YAMAGIRI, TAMAGAWA and YODOGAWA MARUs, completed between ‘35 and ‘39 for various shipping companies. All were requisitioned, YAMAZUKI, TAMAGAWA and ZENYO MARUs by the IJA, SHINKO, KEIYO, KAMOGAWA, YAMAGIRI and YODOGAWA MARUs by the IJN in ’41. SHINKO MARU served as an auxiliary minelayer, KAMOGAWA and KEIYO MARUs as auxiliary aircraft transports, YAMAGIRI MARU as an auxiliary transport , YODOGAWA MARU as an auxiliary collier/oiler. All were bombed or torpedoed and sunk between Feb ’42 and Oct ’44.
