This class consisted of FUJI (NANMAN), BALTIMORE, BELFAST, BORDEAUX, MONTREAL, NORFOLK, RHINE, VENICE and WALES MARUS. All were completed as passenger-cargo ships for Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha's “K” Line by Kawasaki shipyard of Kobe between 1921 and 1923.

BALTIMORE, BELFAST AND RHINE MARUs were lost prewar to various causes. BORDEAUX and MONTREAL MARUs were sunk by American aircraft in Feb '42 and Jan '43 respectively. FUJI (NANMAN), NORFOLK, VENICE and WALES MARUS were sunk by American submarines in Oct '43, Aug '44, Nov '42 and May '44 respectively.
