MIKAGE MARU No. 20 Auxiliary Transport Class


(MIKAGE MARU No. 20, prewar)

This class consists of MIKAGE MARU No. 20, HINO MARU No. 5, SHINSEI MARU No. 18, SHOZUI, SHOHO and OMINE MARUs completed between ‘40 and ’41 for various shipping companies. All but OMINE MARU were requisitioned: MIKAGE MARU No. 20 and SHOHO MARU served as IJA transports with respectively allotted numbers No. 579 and 875; HINO MARU No. 5 and SHINSEI MARU No. 18 by the IJN as converted auxiliary transports and SHOZUI MARU as an IJN general requisitioned transport. All were bombed or torpedoed and sunk by US aircraft or US submarine between in Jul ’43 and Oct ‘44.
