Kuretake Maru Class Transport

KURETAKE MARU was completed as a cargo ship in 1925 for the Oriel Shipping Co. (J. Edgar & Co.), Liverpool. In 1928, she was sold to Tatsuuma Kisen, K. K. of Tsurmi and renamed KURETAKE MARU.

In 1941, KURETAKE MARU was requisitioned by the IJA and saw action in the invasions of Davao, Philippines and Tarakan and Balikpapan, Borneo. On 24 Jan '42, KURETAKE MARU was sunk in Balikpapan Bay by an American destroyer.
