KOSEI MARU - Class Auxiliary storeship


(KOSEI MARU, prewar)

This class consists of KOSEI MARU only. Laid down as a War Standard G design ship like CANONESA, HIGHLAND WARRIOR, NEBRASCA, NICTHEROY, PORT CURTIS and SALLAND, she was modified during construction. Completed in 1918 as NARENTA for Royal Mail SP CO, she was sold in ’32 to Royal Mail Lines Ltd and then to Nippon Suisan K.K. and renamed KOSEI MARU in ’39. Requisitioned by the IJN in Sep ’41 and converted that same month to an auxiliary stores ship, she was released to her owners in May ’42 and requisitioned again by the IJN as a general transport in Mar ’43. She was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine in Apr ’43, NW Truk.
