KONGOSAN MARU Class Auxiliary Gunboats

This class consists of KONGOSAN MARU, CHOJUSAN MARU and CHOHAKUSAN MARU, completed in 1927 as 2,116-tons passenger/cargo ships for Chosen Yusen K.K. All three ships were requisitioned by the IJN as auxiliary gunboats and were sunk during the war. KONGOSAN MARU was torpedoed and sunk off the Honshu coast in May 1942. CHOJUSAN MARU served as a convoy escort and was torpedoed and sunk off Kyushu in November 1944. CHOHAKUSAN MARU was bombed and sunk at Naha Port, Okinawa in March 1945.
