KOMAKI MARU-Class Auxiliary Transport

This class consists of KOMAKI and KANO MARUs, completed for Kokusai Kisen K.K. in ‘33 and ’34 respectively. Both ships were requisitioned by the IJN. KOMAKI MARU, in ’40 was converted to an auxiliary aircraft transport. KANO MARU, in ’41 was converted to an auxiliary transport. KOMAKI MARU was bombed by US aircraft and sunk at Rabaul, New Britain, in Apr ’42; KANO MARU was torpedoed by a US submarine off Kiska, Aleutians in Aug ’42 and later wrecked.
