KATSURA MARU Class Auxiliary Gunboats

(KATSURA MARU, prewar)

This class consists of KATSURA MARU only (AZUSA MARU has slightly different dimensions), completed in ‘37 as a 1,368-tons cargo ship for Marutatsu Kaiun K.K. Requisitioned by the IJN in Nov ’41, she was renamed KATSURA MARU No. 2 GO the following month and converted to an auxiliary gunboat until Jan ’43 where she was used as an auxiliary fleet replenishment vessel. She was ultimately torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine in Sep ’43.
