KAMITSU MARU - Class Auxiliary Transport


(TOMITSU MARU sistership of KAMITSU MARU, prewar)

This class consists of KAMITSU, KUNITSU, TOMITSU and TOYOTSU MARUs, all completed between Sep ‘37 and Nov ‘37 for Settsu Shosen K.K. All were requisitioned by the IJN, KUNITSU MARU was converted in Nov ’41 to an auxiliary transport, the others, to auxiliary gunboats. KUNITSU MARU survived the war and was scuttled in Mar ’47. The others were all sunk from various causes between Feb ’42 and Jun ‘45.
