IJN KAIHEI MARU-Class Auxiliary Transports

(KAIHEI MARU prewar)

This class consisted of three ships, KAIHEI MARU, completed in 1934 for Shimatani Kisen K.K., and KENRYU and KENKON MARUs completed in 1935 for Inui Kisen K. K. The latter was requisitioned by IJA as a troop transport and sunk by an American submarine in Jan ‘43. KENRYU and KAIHEI MARUs were requisitioned by the IJN in Dec ’40 and Oct ’41 respectively. They were torpedoed and sunk by American submarines in Nov ’43 and Apr ’43 respectively.
