ISHIKARI MARU - Class Auxiliary collier


(ISHIKARI MARU, prewar)

This class consists of IBURI and ISHIKARI MARU, both completed in 1938. ISHIKARI MARU was requisitioned in Sep ‘41 by the IJN and registered that same month as an auxiliary collier. In Mar ’42, she was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine off Ototo Jima. IBURI MARU remained under civilian control and in Jun ’43, was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine off Tanohata, Iwate Prefecture.
