ISHIKARI MARU - Class Auxiliary collier


(ISHIKARI MARU, prewar)

This class consists of IBURI and ISHIKARI MARU, both completed in 1938. ISHIKARI MARU was requisitioned in Sep 41 by the IJN and registered that same month as an auxiliary collier. In Mar 42, she was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine off Ototo Jima. IBURI MARU remained under civilian control and in Jun 43, was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine off Tanohata, Iwate Prefecture.
