HEITO MARU-Class Auxiliary Transport

(GENKAI MARU prewar)

This class consisted of HEITO, SHOKA and TAITO MARUs, all completed for Osaka Shosen Kaisha in 1935 for carrying Formosan bananas to Japan. All were requisitioned in 1941 by the IJN and converted to auxiliary transports. They were all bombed or torpedoed, and sunk by American aircraft or submarine between May ‘42 and May ‘44.
