Hakkai Maru Class Auxiliary Repair Ship

(HAKKAI MARU prewar)

Commissioned in 1941, merchant freighter HAKKAI MARU was converted to an auxiliary repair and salvage ship. Her main operating bases were at Paramushiro in the Kurile Islands and later at Rabaul, New Britain in the Bismarcks. HAKKAI MARU was sunk at Rabaul in January 1944.
