(USS FEDERAL in ballast in WW1 (later FUKUYAMA MARU)



USS FEDERAL, later FUKUJU MARU, was completed in 1918 as a cargo ship for the U. S. Shipping Board. In '18, she was commissioned as USS FEDERAL. In '37 she was sold to a British firm in Shanghai, China and renamed FEDERLOCK.

On 8 Dec'41, she was seized by the Imperial Navy (IJN). Renamed FUKUYAMA MARU she was bombed and sunk in an '45 by an USN carrier-based aircraft.
