Osaka. Laid down by Namura Zosensho K.K. shipyard for Namura Kisen G.K. as a 1,289-ton cargo ship.

August 1937:
Launched and named DAIGEN MARU No. 7.

8 November 1937:
Completed and registered in Hamadera, Osaka Prefecture.

9 November 1938:
Requisitioned by the IJN.

18 November 1938:
Registered in the IJN as an auxiliary gunboat attached to the Sasebo Naval District under instruction No. 967. Naval Reserve Lt Egashira Tomiya is appointed CO.

20 November 1938:

Departs Shipu. Comes alongside and loads fresh food from auxiliary storeship BANSHU MARU No. 21.

Arrives at Wusong, Shanghai entrance. Departs there and arrives at Shanghai, tethering at Coal pier. Loads coal and boiler water. Departs there and tethers to Buoy No. 6 later that same day.

4 December 1941:
Loads fresh food and canteen goods.

Departs Shanghai.

6 December 1941:
Arrives at Shipu. Departs there and calls at Yuet Ching Bay. Departs there later that day.

8 December 1941:
At 0520, sights British cargo ship MARY MOLLER (later KAIKO MARU). At 0620, a boarding party comes aboard that ship. At 0720, ship is instructed to resume her course. At 1220, MARY MOLLER is seized and her crew captured at Qiqu Liedao Island. At 1420, they are transferred to DAIGEN MARU No. 7.

Currently assigned to Shanghai Special Base Force, 8th Warning Corps, 14th Gunboat Division under Navy’s telegram No. 153. On patrol duties about 100 nautical miles S of Hong Kong.

Departs later that day Qiqu Liedao Island on patrol duties. 9 December 1941:
Arrives at Qiqu Liedao Island. Departs there later in the day escorting MARY MOLLER.

10 December 1941:

At 2300, one of the ships, IJA transport NICHIREN MARU suffers engine problems. At 2350, ends the convoy’s escort and monitors NICHIREN MARU.

29 January 1942:
Cargo ship FUYO MARU tows IJA transport NICHIREN MARU towards Jiu Shan Islands. Arrives there later that day.

30 January 1942:
Departs Jiu Shan Islands on patrol duties and arrives back there later in the day.

31 January 1942:
Departs Jiu Shan Islands escorting IJA transport NICHIREN MARU.

1 February 1942:
At 1000, E of Dong Ting Lake, Yangtze River, ends the escort of IJA transport NICHIREN MARU and arrives at Shipu later that day. Inspects three junks.

14 August 1944:
About 20 nautical miles W of Jinsen, Chosen (now Incheon, South Korea). About 0100, LtCdr (later Rear Admiral-Ret) John E. Lee's (USNA ‘30) USS CROAKER (SS-246) running on the surface detects a ship on radar. After closing the target, Lee fires a spread of four torpedoes and scores one hit on DAIGEN MARU No. 7, blowing off her stern. Dead in the water and abandoned by her crew, the transport is finished off by another spread of two torpedoes with one hit obtained. She sinks at 37-30N, 125-50E with the loss of 13 crewmen.

Removed from the Navy list under instruction No. 1258.
