This class consists only of CHITOSE MARU, completed in 1921 as a 2,669-tons ice strengthened cargo ship for Nippon Yusen Kaisha K.K. The ship was requisitioned by the IJN as an auxiliary gunboat and served in the Northern waters, which was a relatively lower risk operational area when compared to the southern areas.
