CHIHAYA MARU - Class Auxiliary Transport


(TJISAROEA later CHIHAYA MARU, prewar)

CHIHAYA MARU was laid down as a 7,089-tons passenger/cargo ship and named TJISAROEA for NV Java-China-Japan Lijn, Batavia, D.E.I. She was completed in Jan 26 and registered at Batavia. In Mar 42, she was captured by destroyer ARASHI SSE of Tjilatjap, Java. Renamed in Jun 42 CHIHAYA MARU, she was registered in the IJN in Aug 42 as an auxiliary transport. She was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine in Nov 43.
